Ideas and themes that interest me in painting: to create space that cannot be fathomed and never becomes active, spatial impressions without proper space, "clogging up space."
Harshness with pleasant colors, pseudo clearness/crystallinity, materiality, Sense of Place, Sense of moment, identities.

My objects often are machines and instruments, which express themselves in different ways, sometimes starting from regular objects and concepts. Repetition and morphing form recurring factors. As an example, a radio sequencer:

  • Radios often use variable capacitors to the transmitter setting. The used FM radio kit from Franzis is an exception, because it uses a combination of coil and resistance. Resistors have the advantage that they can be easily automated.
The Radio Sequencer switches through 8 frequencies with adjustable tempo. The three rhythmically occurring ingredients are silence, noise (relatively constant) and scraps of the broadcast (morphing), combining to create a John Cage-like performance.
  • The Radio Sequencer represents a digital-analog Cut Up method that uses our now almost obsolete information distribution machine, the radio, as a material and readymade. The rhythm envelops the material and restructures it indiscriminately.
The result is a stream of unexpected combinations and phrases that often have a surprising amount of aesthetic charm.
